Toy Story…and beyond
This article is thanks in part to Fashion Sensei. Thanks for reading!
TOY STORY (1995) was the first major film released by Pixar Animation Studios and director John Lasseter and it was arguably one of the most influential animated films of the 20th century, recieving several Oscar nominations and earning Lasseter a Special Achievement Award “for the development and inspired applicaiton of techniquests that have mae the first feature-length computer-animated film.” TOY STORY 2 (1999) went on to become one of the most popular animated features of all time.
Earlier this week, it was announced that both of these beloved animated features will be converted to 3D using Disney’s proprietary Disney Digital 3D technology.
I saw NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS 3D last year and can tell you that the technology is amazing and perfect for these digitally produced animated films!!
In addition to the historical significance of both of these film, these adaptations will signal the pre-promotion of Disney-Pixar’s upcoming release of TOY STORY 3 – which will feature the latest state-of-the-art use of the Disney Digital 3D technology. The release date for TOY STORY 3 is currently set for June 18, 2010.
TOY STORY in 3D (the re-envisoned 3D version of the 1995 film) will be released in theatres October 2, 2009 with TOY STORY 2 in 3D to follow soon thereafter on February 12, 2010.
On a related note, I recently learned that like the HUGELY successful live action stage versions of THE LION KING and BEAUTY AND THE BEAST….
TOY STORY – THE MUSICAL is coming soon!
But don’t run to TKTS just yet. This show is going to be treading water for a while – on a Disney Cruise Ship, that is! According to a recent press release, TOY STORY — THE MUSICAL will debut in April 2008 aboard the Disney Wonder cruise ship.
Hopefully, this one will be successful enough to make it to land as I have a phobia about those cruise ships (don’t ask)…
….then again, with 3D technology advancing so quickly and 3D broadcasts of live concerts – like U2 and Disney’s Hannah Montana -becoming common place, I may just wait until TOY STORY – THE MUSICAL comes to a theatre (cinema) near me!
Here is a rendering of the stage show FYI. Looks fantastic!
Yippe!!!!! I love these pictures. Do you mind if I lift the top one from you for my boys? We are all really looking forward to seeing these movies in the theater, especially in 3D.
Meet The Robinsons was a fantastic movie. It’s too bad it wasn’t that popular.
Thanks for posting!!! 🙂
