Wild Things are Coming

In what appears to be a cross between Jim Henson (The Dark Crystal, Labyrinth, etc.) and Guillermo Del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy) comes one of the most anticipated movies of the year – WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE – based on the children’s book by Maurice Sendak and directed by “Being John Malkovich” director Spike Jonze.

Check out the trailer here:

In production since 2005 and pushed from its 2008 release date to this year – now scheduled for release on October 16, 2009 – there have been many rumors about the challenges in bringing this larger than life beloved book to the screen…but it appears that the wait is over!

More updates to come…but check out some of the phenomenal production pictures recently released by Warner Bros.

Not surprising, but the creatures in the film are being portrayed by actors in 6-8 foot tall costumes, with some additional animatronics, and computer-generated faces.

The costumes were created by The Jim Henson Company, who were responsible for the Muppets and Labyrinth creatures. Numerous cameras followed the actors around to impress their expressions and feelings. The images would then be digitally “infused” onto the faces of the puppets and would follow the actors’ performances.
