Calliope in Outer Space

I’ve just started to get into Stephanie Meyer’s popular book series beginning with the novel TWILIGHT…and so far, I haven’t been disappointed.

Entertainment Weekly had a front page story last week regarding Summit Entertainment’s plans to create a new movie franchise from the books – beginning with the first story (TWILIGHT) due out later this year in December (12/12/08 to be exact).

Billed as a Vampire tale for the HARRY POTTER crowd (although I definitely see nods to BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER here), TWILIGHT is a modern day classic horror/romance – following in the footsteps of all of the great gothic star-crossed love stories like Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Beauty and the Beast and The Fly.

So far, I am completely mesmerized by its spell.

I can’t tell from the trailer (below) if it is going translate into a great film, but I already know from the genre that there will be a huge following for the movie and increased sales of the books over the next 5 months!

My prediction?

This is going to just keep getting bigger.

I am planning to attend a screening of some new footage at San Diego ComicCon next week.    I’m keeping my eye on this one!!
