Comic-Con Update #1

I’m Baaaa-AAAAK!

One again, I have made my trek (no pun intended…or implied…or…eh, whatever) down to San Diego for my all-time favorite trade show  -COMIC-CON INTERNATIONAL.

Because I am here all week, I had an opportunity to visit the Wednesday Preview night of the show and took the opportunity to scope out the booths and locate all of my target destinations for the week.  Yes, I am a geek.

In addition to doing some SERIOUS hiking around the show floor today, I attended the both the FOX and Summit Entertainment panels.

I’ll write a comprehensive review about my opinions of what I saw today, but here are a list of panels that I watched today:

THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL
MAX STEEL
WOLVERINE (Hugh Jackman made an impromptu visit to everyone’s surprise!)
PUSH
KNOWING

…and of course TWILIGHT – which I was really looking forward to as previously posted.

Turns out I am not alone in my excitement – there were 6,500 screaming fans waiting for hours in line to get in to see the panel!

Check out the response that the author, Stephenie Meyer, and the cast received as they announced the TWILIGHT panel attendees today.

This is a CRAZY group of fans – and very exciting!  Harry Potter has nothing on the “Twilighters!”

More on this to come later this weekend!!  I am bringing my camera tomorrow hopefully!!

Here is G4’s coverage of TWILIGHT:

Deeper into Twilight

I love Vampires.  Always have.

Perhaps it is the Carpatho Rusyn blood in me (yes, the Carpathian kind).

Who knows?

But it is an undeniable infatuation…charismatic, artistic, passionate, flawed….Vampires make for good reading material – and typicallly (at least for me) very compelling fare for cinema.

Having made it through the first two books of the TWILIGHT series by Stephanie Meyer (TWILIGHT and NEW MOON respectively) in less than a week, it is safe to say that I am hooked.

I will be finishing the third book (ECLIPSE) this week in anticipation of the worldwide release of the final book in the series, BREAKING DAWN, on August 2, 2008.  I just can’t get enough of this story! (UPDATE:  It’s official – I just finished ECLIPSE after a Sunday morning read-a-thon… I couldn’t wait!)

The saga employs a high degree of suspense and tension – keeping readers THIRSTING for more.  The characters are teens/young adults – but the emotions are raw and intimate.  It is no wonder that the fans are so passionate about sharing their excitement about the books and the upcoming movie.

BREAKING DAWN, is one of the most anticipated book releases of the summer and as I wrote in a previous post, the film is already being touted as one of the most highly anticipated films of the Holiday 2008 film calendar.

Just in case you missed it, here is the second (2nd) trailer released promoting the film.

I really hope that the film does the book justice…and if it does, I hope that they will create either a film franchise or a TV show following these wonderful characters.

I can’t wait for Comic-Con in San Diego next week!!  I am predicting that it will be TWILIGHTcentral!

Not that I can see the future, or anything…. 😉

Watching the Watchmen?

•July 18, 2008 • Leave a Comment

Hollywood has been buzzing about the debut of Alan Moore’s classic graphic novel on the big screen in 2009.

Cast for the movie from left to right: Malin Akerman as Sally Jupiter, Billy Crudup as Dr. Manhattan, Patrick Wilson as Nite Owl II (he was wonderful in Hard Candy), Thomas Jane (rumored) as the Comedian, Matthew Goode as Ozymandias, and Jackie Earle Haley as Rorschach.

Here is the synopsis of the film (thanks to IMDB):

“Watchmen” is set in an alternate 1985 America in which costumed superheroes are part of the fabric of everyday society, and the “Doomsday Clock” – which charts the USA’s tension with the Soviet Union – is permanently set at five minutes to midnight. When one of his former colleagues is murdered, the washed up but no less determined masked vigilante Rorschach sets out to uncover a plot to kill and discredit all past and present superheroes. As he reconnects with his former crime-fighting legion – a ragtag group of retired superheroes, only one of whom has true powers – Rorschach glimpses a wide-ranging and disturbing conspiracy with links to their shared past and catastrophic consequences for the future. Their mission is to watch over humanity… but who is watching the Watchmen?”

Directed by Zack Snyder (300), the trailer has a strong, highly stylized steam punk look…and amazing costuming.

More to come on this as more details are released next week at San Diego Comic-Con!
